Clearstream launches blockchain solution for private funds

Clearstream has launched a blockchain-based solution to automate private fund processing, improve transparency and streamline distribution through its Vestima platform.

Clearstream has launched a blockchain-based platform aimed at automating private fund processes, consolidating investor portfolios and enhancing reporting, the company announced on Wednesday 18 June 2025. The solution, developed by Deutsche Börse Group’s post-trade services provider, integrates distributed ledger technology (DLT) via FundsDLT and connects with Clearstream’s Vestima platform. Initially released to a group of selected clients, the digital infrastructure is expected to support a broader market rollout in due course.

According to the announcement, the new system is intended to reduce inefficiencies in private fund distribution, a sector long dominated by manual processes. Clearstream stated that the Vestima-integrated platform automates key functions across the distribution chain, offering anonymised, granular views of investor portfolios. It also allows multiple portfolios to be consolidated under a single Clearstream account, easing administrative burden and enabling detailed tracking of capital commitments and lock-up periods.

The platform supports the digital aggregation and disaggregation of investor holdings, facilitating order routing, capital call execution and asset servicing. Integration with back-end systems enables the automated exchange of operational data, reducing reliance on manual input.

Reporting and compliance

For asset managers, the platform introduces anonymous portfolio-level reporting to support both issuance and regulatory oversight. Clearstream noted that the system maintains precise records of investments and transactions, improving transparency and control across investor networks.

, CEO of Clearstream Fund Services, described the development as a shift towards a business-to-business-to-consumer (B2B2C) distribution model. He stated that the system would increase accessibility and operational efficiency for asset managers looking to engage wealth management professionals.

The launch forms part of Clearstream’s wider strategy to digitise private market infrastructure, a traditionally fragmented and opaque segment of the asset management industry. , head of digital for Clearstream Fund Services and CEO of FundsDLT, described the platform as transformative. He said it would provide fund providers and distributors with advanced reporting tools while reducing the costs and complexity of distribution.
