Mirae Asset Securities announced on January 29 that it has successfully issued digital bonds totaling 100 billion won.

This digital bond issuance was conducted simultaneously in the amounts of 325 million Hong Kong dollars and 30 million US dollars. HSBC served as the lead manager, while Mirae Asset Securities’ Hong Kong subsidiary acted as the co-manager. To maximize initial stability, the company adopted a private placement method for fundraising.

The issuance process utilized HSBC’s proprietary tokenization platform, Orion, which is linked to the Central Moneymarkets Unit (CMU), the official bond settlement infrastructure of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA). The company explained that this blockchain infrastructure, designed on the same technological foundation as the Hong Kong government’s digital green bonds, is highly symbolic as a domestic financial institution has proactively adopted global-level digital finance standards.

Digital bonds are issued and distributed using blockchain and distributed ledger technology (DLT). By automating the entire process from issuance and interest payments to redemption through distributed ledger technology, the efficiency of the financial system is dramatically enhanced, and transaction records are stored on the blockchain, thereby increasing transparency. As a result, investors are provided with a safer and more transparent digital asset investment environment.

The company emphasized that this successful case goes beyond simple fundraising, presenting a new model for borderless capital raising through digital technology. The simultaneous multi-currency fundraising, which eliminated currency exchange costs and settlement time lags, is seen as an example of how domestic financial institutions can significantly enhance their capital efficiency on the global stage.
